Demonstration against the Great Depression is held.

December 1, 1931

Mayor James Michael Curley takes part in the demonstration, which includes a ceremonial burial at sea of an effigy of “General D. Pression” at Battery Wharf. Curley also calls for a philanthropic fund drive to help Bostonians in need. The campaign reaches its goal of $3 million on February 13, 1932, and a giant thermometer set up on Boston Common overflows to show the success of the campaign.
